Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
Hope everyone has had a great week! I have been able to get a lot done over the last two days and am excited for the students to return to an organized classroom on Monday! We are in full swing of 4th grade! Here's what our week looks like:
Cougar's Call: We will have a quick math quiz on Monday and Wednesday on addition and subtraction. We will also continue MAP testing on Tuesday and Thursday. On Friday we will have our very first Spelling test on our September Words (composer, unfriendly, encouragement, impossible, musician, discovery, richest, hopeless.) Math: We are wrapping up adding and subtracting numbers into the hundred thousands. On Thursday we will review the Math study guide that will be sent home Monday. On Friday we will have the Topic 2 Test. This is for a formal grade! Please let me know if your child is uncomfortable with adding and subtracting these large numbers. These basic operations will come in handy throughout the year. Literacy: We are going to start looking into plot, summary and theme using fiction text. On Thursday we will have a short quiz on summarizing. In writing we are continuing the writing process. We are working on revising and editing. Integrated Studies: This week will be centered around Shark Tank! Students will create a business! This is another small group or independent project where students create a slogan, radio ad, and floor plan of their business. It must be a new business that hasn't been created already! Start thinking about possibilities! HOMEWORK: -Math Study Guide (going over Thursday before test Friday) -Study for spelling test (Friday 9/29) -Read two and a half hours and log in agenda ANNOUNCEMENTS: -MAP test is being rescheduled for Tuesday and Thursday mornings during Cougars Call due to technical difficulties with the system -Progress Reports go home 10/2 -I will send out a sign up sheet for conferences starting next week. I will be holding parent/teacher conferences before and after school for most of the month of October! WISH LIST: -Headphones (we still need about 6 pair) -Origami Paper (ask your child about our 1,000 paper cranes for peace!) -Stockmar Modeling Beeswax (12 sheets) - I have a fun idea for our next read aloud :)
