Math: This week we are focusing on division strategies. Over the week, students will learn multiple methods to divide multi-digit numbers with remainders. I highly recommend the box method seen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rHnkkTY4DI Students will have an exit ticket/worksheet this week for an informal grade. Literacy: Using nonfiction text, students will continue reading about the time period following the American Revolution and the causes of the Civil War. Students will focus on the timeline of events in order to better understand this period in history. Writing: Students will create a 3 paragraph essay on the causes, battles, and aftermath of the American Revolution. Please note that if your child does not finish this essay, they will be required to work on it as homework throughout the week. This is due Friday 2/1 for a writing grade. This writing piece will also be considered when grading content, fluency, and conventions. Integrated Studies: This week students will learn about the causes of the Civil War as well as the Reconstruction Era after the war. We are slowly preparing for our Raleigh field trip and learning about our own state's constitution and laws! HOMEWORK: -Read & log in agenda -Math/Literacy Flex Group Homework -Complete writing essay if needed! ANNOUNCEMENTS: **Remember, students must have 80% positive Dojo points to come to the Friendship Party AND Raleigh Field Trip! Good Afternoon! I hope you all had a good long weekend. We have a lot of testing come up so please make sure your child is at school on time and has a good night's sleep each night! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Math: We are retesting on Topic 4 (multiplication) on Friday. We are also beginning Topic 5 on division. Literacy: In Literacy this week we will be using this time for MAP testing. On Wednesday we have the Math MAP test. On Thursday we will having the Reading MAP test. On Friday students will have made up their Literacy formal test from the previous week. (Lots of testing, yes I know. Sorry! Don't kill the messenger!) Writing: In Writing this week students will begin putting together their notes on the Revolutionary War. By Friday students will have an outline of their 3-5 paragraph essay. Essays will be due the following Friday. **Spelling test this Friday during writing time!** Integrated Studies: Students will see the outcome of the Revolutionary War (the constitution) and we will begin to discuss North Carolina's Bill of Rights and Constitution. Math: Students will wrap up Topic 4 on multiplying 2-digit by 2-digit numbers. On Thursday students will take a formal assessment on Topic 4. A study guide was sent home as homework for the week. Please let me know if your child needs additional practice. Literacy: We will continue focusing on nonfiction standards while integrating the American Revolution into our reading. On Tuesday students will take a formal assessment on these nonfiction standards. They should be comfortable with finding the main idea, details, author's purpose, text structure, and firsthand/secondhand accounts. Integrated Studies: We will start the week with learning about taxation without representation and how it led to the American Revolution. In this unit our class will focus on the battles that took place in North Carolina. Throughout the week student will be researching and presenting about an important event or battle that took place during the American Revolution. The presentation will be taken for an informal grade on Friday 1/18.
