Cougar's Call: We will be switching Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for targeted math groups. Wednesday will be the last day to work on vocabulary and spelling in class. Friday will be our month spelling test for an informal grade. Wordly Wise will also be due for an informal grade on Friday morning. Math: We are classifying and measuring angles for the first half of the week. Students will learn how to use protractors to measure acute, right, and obtuse angles. We will use this knowledge to help us identify angles in common shapes as well as classify triangles. Literacy: This week students will focus on narrative nonfiction. On Friday students will have a quiz on reading narrative nonfiction for a formal grade. Integrated Studies: We are continuing science! On Monday we will review the states of matter, then move into magnetism. On Wednesday students will get to build an electromagnet in class! Finally on Thursday we will move into electricity discussions. On Friday we have an IMIB Character Assembly. Seven weeks and counting! I think after step up day, students are really looking forward to being a big 5th grader! Ask them about their experience with the 5th grade teachers!
Cougar's Call: We will have targeted math groups on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings. We are continuing to work on Wordly Wise vocabulary and April Spelling words on Wednesday and Friday mornings. Math: In Math we will have a quick unit on patterns before we start unit 15 on lines, rays and angles. Literacy: This week will focus on folktales, fables, myths, and legends. We will not swap for literacy on Monday or Thursday. Integrated Studies: We are continuing our science unit. Last week we talked about heat. Ask your child about good conductors and insulators! This week we'll talk about light and matter. On Friday students will meet for clubs! HOMEWORK: -Unit 13 Test Corrections -Finish Wordly Wise/Practice Spelling -Practice EOG questions (I suggest printing or having your child do a few questions each night. This is not homework that has to be turned in, but GREAT practice as we gear up for the EOGs. If your child has trouble with a problem, have them note it in their agenda and we can review it! Cougar's Call: Again, we will switch for targeted math groups on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. On Wednesday and Friday students will have time to work on Wordly Wise and Spelling activities. The Wordly Wise packet and the Spelling Test will be due on Friday, May 4th. Math: In math we will continue to convert measurements. We will also cover area and perimeter. The Unit 13 study guide is due Thursday. The Unit 13 formal assessment is Friday. Please continue to encourage your child to practice converting measurements over the next few weeks until it's concrete in their brain! Literacy: We are continuing EOG prep. This week we will begin to actively read nonfiction. Integrated Studies: Monday is the formal assessment to wrap up our animal adaptations unit. On Tuesday we will start our new unit, "How the World Works." In this unit students will learn about force, motion and electricity. This is a fun unit! I hope everyone had a fun and exciting Spring Break! I'm looking forward to a great end of 3rd quarter as we start the downhill slide to the end of the year! (Pretty crazy to think about!) Cougar's Call: Monday morning we will reestablish our rules and procedures. Tuesday and Thursday students will switch for targeted math groups. Wednesday and Friday will be used to go over the new spelling and vocabulary words for the month of April. Math: In math we will start Topic 13 on measurement. This week we will learn about the customary units of measurement for length (inches, feet, yards, miles), capacity (ounces, cups, pints, quarts, gallons), and weight (ounces, pounds, and tons.) By the end of the week students should be comfortable identifying units and converting units of measurement. Literacy: This week we will focus on fiction text. We will thoroughly review determining the characters, traits, setting, theme, and summarizing the text. On Friday students will take a Mock Reading EOG. Our schedule Friday is heavily altered this day and all students should be present! (See altered schedule below!) Integrated Studies: Monday will be the last class day to complete the animal adaptations class portion of the project. ALL PROJECTS ARE DUE TUESDAY MORNING. Also on Monday, students will take home a "Sharing the Planet" Science study guide. The study guide is due and will be reviewed in class Friday, April 13th. Tuesday & Wednesday afternoon students will present their projects and wrap up this Science unit. On Friday we will have an IMIB Character Assembly during our I.S. time.
