EOG week has finally come! If you or anyone your know is interested in volunteering this week as a proctor for the EOG exams please let me know! Our school is in need of ANYONE with a valid driver's license and time! Proctors will sit in on exams and walk around the room during testing. If you can spread the word, that would be helpful as well! Thank you!

On Wednesday students will continue working on their last wordly wise and spelling menu. Math: This week we will review division and fractions in our math "boot camp" sessions. Literacy: In our last week of meetings students will review testing strategies. We call it "road mapping" Students will look for clues about what kind of passage they are given (fiction, informational, poetry, etc.) and use skills to help annotate, comprehend and answer questions to go along with that passage. Integrated Studies: We will spend a few days wrapping up our North Carolina lighthouses and electricity unit. Towards the end of the week we will begin our last unit of the year where we learn about North Carolina customs, traditions, and how they are related to other states in the US! Cougar's Call: On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday we will have targeted math groups. On Wednesday and Friday students will focus on the new vocabulary words for the month and work on spelling. Wordly Wise 8 is the last vocabulary packet of the year! The spelling words for the month will be a review of this year's words. I will send home a list of all the words we've had over the year. From the list, I will pick 10 random words for the test at the end of the month. Look for the list in your child's cougar folder. Math: In math we are continuing Unit 15 on lines and angles. Students will start the week by classifying triangles and quadrilaterals. We will move into line symmetry then have a formal math test on this unit on Wednesday 5/9. Thursday, Friday, and next week will be math "bootcamps" where students will spend time reviewing standards they missed on the mock EOG or enriching the standards they already know! Literacy: We will focus on nonfiction. On Friday students will have an informal quiz in their literacy groups. Integrated Studies: We are continuing our science unit. We are taking last week's introduction into electricity and using it to start talking about circuits. Students have picked a favorite NC lighthouse. In art they are recreating a model of the lighthouse (made to scale and everything!) We will use the completed lighthouse to make a real light (using our circuit knowledge) on the top! We will start the lighthouse project on Thursday and continue this project into next week. The lighthouse and brochure about their lighthouse will be due Friday 5/18. This is a class project, but may need to be homework depending on if your child needs extra time.
