Only three more weeks of school left?! I don't know how this year has flown by! Here's how our EOG week will look:
In Cougar's Call on Monday we will have a math quiz. It is a formal grade which is weighted heavier. This test will be a review of multi-digit numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and measurement. Two weeks ago students brought home their Math Mock EOG. A great way to prepare for this formal AND EOGs is to go through those questions and discuss the possible answers or rework the questions that your child missed. Let me know if you have any questions. Monday and Tuesday will be used for the final days of EOG prep. We will take sample EOG questions and talk through the correct answers. To make things more exciting, we will play Kahoot on our chromebooks with practice questions. WooHoo! Wednesday is the Reading EOG. Thursday is the Math EOG. Please make sure your child has a good breakfast and gets plenty of sleep before these tests! Positive encouragement is also welcome, as some students are a little nervous :) During our afternoon time we are working on a states project! Now that we have learned about important North Carolina events, people, and culture we are going to focus on the other 49 states. For the next couple of weeks, students will begin researching a state and presenting their knowledge in the form of a poster, powerpoint, or creative commercial! All 4th grade classes have different states, so by the end of our project we hope to move around from class to class and learn about each state's culture! I will have more details in the next update. HOMEWORK: -Read two and a half hours and log it in agenda -Study May spelling words ANNOUNCEMENTS: -5/24 - Reading EOG -5/25 - Math EOG -5/29 - No School -5/31 - Play 60 6/02 - Spelling Test & Portfolio Sharing (1:30-2:00) Have a wonderful weekend! I hope to see you all at Celebrate Cotswold! Happy early Mother's Day to the C3 moms! You all are wonderful! Trust me, you're doing a GREAT job!
Here is what our week will look like: In Cougar's Call on Monday we will finish up our lighthouse projects. Tuesday and Thursday we will have Math Blitz. Wednesday and Friday we will focus on vocabulary and spelling. In Math we are still moving around for EOG Blitz this week. Each day is a new standard/focus. EOG prep is moving quickly! Each day students receive a packet of practice problems. Problems that are not completed in class can be taken home for additional practice if you feel it is necessary. Let me know if you have any questions or would like me to send home even more practice for the EOG Test. In Literacy we are spending the week focusing on vocabulary across genres. On Friday we will have a formal quiz to check for understanding on fiction, nonfiction, and functional text. In Integrated Studies we are moving on to our very last unit on North Carolina Culture! We will learn about all of the things that make North Carolina a great place to live! HOMEWORK: -Literacy Reading -Math Packet -EOG packets not finished in class (if extra practice is needed) ANNOUNCEMENTS: -5/15 - I will be out part of the day due to meetings at school. -5/17 - Progress Reports go home! -5/19 - Last day of clubs! -5/20 - Celebrate Cotswold 2-5pm -5/24 & 5/25 - EOG Reading & Math -5/29 - No School -5/31 - Play 60 -6/2 - Portfolio Sharing Hi C3 Families! If you haven't had a chance already, take a look below at our innovators making electricity! Ask them how to make a circuit light up a light! We'll be putting this knowledge to use this week as students build a NC lighthouse! Cougar's Call on Monday and Wednesday morning will be used for vocabulary and spelling practice. This is our last month of spelling words so we are going to have a spelling review! Students should study all past spelling words from the year! I will pick 10 from the previous words to test students on Friday, June 2nd. (A list of all spelling words can be found at the bottom of this update.) Tuesday and Thursday this week we will have EOG Math Blitz. Friday morning will be use to catch up on the lighthouse projects. Math this week will be a little hectic. Not only will we swap for Math Blitz during Cougar's Call, we will also swap during our regular math time (12:10-1:00). We are doubling up on math review to prep for the EOGs! This week is heavily focused on multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication and division strategies. I cannot stress the importance of having all multiplication facts memorized! In Literacy this week we continue with nonfiction. This week we will look at functional nonfiction like instructions and guides. On Wednesday we will have a quick informal quiz to check for understanding before moving on to vocabulary across genres. In Integrated Studies this week students will work with their groups to construct a lighthouse (that really lights up!) and visitors guide about that lighthouse. The lighthouse and visitor guide will be due Friday in class. *I will be out the second half of the day on Friday.
