Math: We will spend this week exploring Topic 10 - multiplying fractions with whole numbers. Good Afternoon! We flying right along! With Raleigh out of the way, it looks like we have some yucky testing coming up, but also some fun activities like Boosterthon and Play 60! Look out for more updates in the next couple of weeks! Also, I will be out of the classroom on 3/20, 3/22 & 3/25. Students will be with Ms. Edmonds, a very qualified substitute! Math: We are trudging through fractions! We will continue topic 9 on adding and subtracting fractions. I HIGHLY recommended practicing adding and subtracting mixed numbers as well as converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa. Writing: Students will be finishing up their imaginative narrative stories and having additional time to research for a genius hour! Students will study a topic of choice and present information in the form of a presentation, video, or paper. Integrated Studies: After leaning about the Earth changing throughout time, we are beginning to focus on animals changing throughout time. We will spend the week learning about vertebrates/invertebrates and animal adaptations. On Thursday, students will receive information about our last home project of the year! I will send more information home about the project next week. Math: We are starting unit 9 on adding and subtracting fractions. During this unit, students will be asked to decompose fractions (think, 1/2 = 1/4 + 1/4), add fractions, and subtract fractions. Students will work in class on multiple worksheets and flex teachers will take one of the worksheets for an informal grade. Literacy: Students are continuing reading historical fiction. Over the week students will work with comparing and contrasting points of view, making inferences, and theme. Over the week, students will work on a reading log in class and this log will be taken for a FORMAL grade on 3/15. Writing: We are writing imaginative narratives. Students are working through the writing process to complete their stories. Integrated Studies: This week students will start learning about animal adaptations and needs to survive. Math: This week's sole lesson will be comparing fractions. By the end of the week students should feel comfortable with recognizing equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, and comparing fractions. Literacy: This week our literacy class is moving back into reading fiction! Knowing what we know about history (American Revolution, Civil War, etc.) we will now focus on reading historical fiction. More specifically, students will take the week to compare and contrast different points of view among characters in different stories. Students will have an exit ticket for an informal grade this week. Writing: This week students will learn the basics on writing narratives. They will work each day on their narratives. Integrated Studies: Last week students started researching different biomes around the world. This week, we will take that a step further and learn about the natural disasters that occur within each biome. Students will work on a group project to tell about the natural stressors on earth's environment.
