Happy Friday! We've made it through a crazy week! Biztown was a blast, we went to book fair, we dressed up at our favorite book characters AND we had fall pictures. Whew. Next week is a little more normal. Here's what we're doing:
Cougar's Call: On Monday and Wednesday, we are working on vocabulary and spelling work. Because of our crazy schedule, we have yet to switch for math groups. On Tuesday and Thursday morning we are planning to swap for math groups. On Friday morning Wordly Wise 2 and Spelling Menu for October words will be due. We will have our October spelling test. Math: We are beginning our new unit, Topic 4, on multiplying 2 digit numbers by 2/3/4 digit numbers. (E.g. 234 x 67) Please continue to work on multiplication facts with your child. I cannot stress this enough. Literacy: We will continue studying nonfiction this week. We will focus heavily on nonfiction text structures such as heading, subheading, captions, etc. On Friday we will have an informal quiz on text structures. Integrated Studies: Our new unit is on relocation. We will start this unit by learning about the Native Americans that lived in North Carolina. Cougar's Call: On Tuesday, PNC bank is going to come speak to 4th grade classes about checking and savings accounts and answer student banking questions. Over our last unit, many students have been asking about interest, taxes, and loans! What better than to have them speak to a real banker! We will review the study guide on Tuesday and the Topic 3 formal test will be Wednesday. Thursday students will take the CMS Cycle 1 Assessment. This is not for a grade, but to see how students are progressing thus far and to help us group students for targeted instruction. Friday is a catch up, take a breath day! If you do, I recommend keeping money in an envelope or I can keep it in a safe place as well. Thursday we will begin our new unit on nonfiction! Friday we have pictures at 1:05.
