Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
Hi everyone! So sorry I've been out quite a bit lately. I'm really trying to get better before spring break. With that said, if you have any questions or concerns, I'm still available to chat over email while I'm out next week.
This is the last update until after Spring Break! I will be out Tuesday and Wednesday before Spring Break. During this time, students are going to be heavily working on the Animal Adaptation school part of the project. If your child is out the week before Spring Break, they are in charge of making up what they missed in class! Check cougar folders and backpacks for project information in case you have not yet seen the at home portion of the animal adaptation project. Cougar's Call: Monday and Wednesday students will finish up Wordly Wise 6 vocabulary and March Spelling Menu work. Both are due Wednesday for an informal grade. Students will also take the March spelling test Wednesday for an informal grade. On Tuesday, students will meet with their targeted math groups for decimal and fraction review. Math: The Topic 12 Test is Monday. Topic 12 test will be a formal math grade. This test requires students to understand that decimals are out of 10 or 100 in fraction form. They need to be able to compare and add decimals as well. Khan Academy is a great extra resource as well as the study guide! Let me know if you have questions or your child needs additional help before the test! On Tuesday and Wednesday students will work on test corrections and play fraction and decimal games! Literacy: Students are finishing up a stand alone lesson on the effects of technology on children in North Carolina. Students have been given multiple resources that include interviews, photographs, and maps that tell them more about technology in North Carolina. As they learn, students are recording their findings in their literacy notebook. Starting Monday students will get to write their findings in a more formal writing form to turn in. Integrated Studies: Students will be working on the Animal Adaptation project in class. In class students are in charge of creating a profile card that includes complete sentences about the animal they are researching. The profile card includes a description of the animal, it's habitat, predators, diet, lifespan, and habits. In class, students should also create a detailed illustration of the animal as well as a map of where the animal lives in North Carolina. The map and illustration may be part of the profile card or done on separate pieces of paper. At home, students are creating the animal WITH the adaptation. In addition to creating a 2D or 3D version of the animal in it's habitat, students needs to write about the adaptation on an index card. More information can be found on the project form. Projects are due Tuesday, April 10th after Spring Break. If you are still unsure of what the expectations are, please email me or write a note in your child's agenda. This is a big project worth a lot of points! Tell your child not to wait until the last minute to do the home portion of the project!
