Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
Sorry this is another late post! Here's what's going on this week in C3:
In Cougar's Call this week we will be focusing on word work and preparing for the spelling test Friday! On Thursday we will begin swapping for our fraction group targeted instruction. Also student's will begin their Literacy Cycle 3 Assessment for the district. This test is likely to continue into Literacy time Friday as well. In Math, we are continuing studying fractions. Monday will focus on fractions in word problems. While students are able to create halves and thirds within one piece of something, we want students to see that fractions can also be within a group. (E.g. What fraction of the class is wearing red today?) By Wednesday we will begin to compare fractions, and on Friday we will begin adding fractions. This unit moves quickly, so please have your child complete the math homework and if needed, spend additional time using one of the math resources in the 'Helpful Links' tab. (I think Compass Learning and Khan Academy are great, but there are many other sites out there! Let me know if you need help finding some additional practice for your child!) In Literacy we will continue information nonfiction study. We are beginning to talk now about the Civil War and the Underground Railroad. Perspective or point of view is still a major focus this week as we examine difficult texts and try to fully understand the material. In Writing we will continue persuasive writing. As your child about what topic they are chosen! Some topics are very interesting and I can't wait to hear how they defend their opinion! Our Integrated Studies time this week will relate to our Literacy. We are now looking into the causes of the Civil War and what role North Carolina had during this time. We will also focus on the +80 battles that took place in North Carolina. Announcements: -1/31 NAEP testing (Envelopes went home at the beginning of the month for students that will participate in this national assessment over the day. We have about 1/3 of the class participating. Students not testing will stay in class with me and review material learned throughout the previous week.) -2/2 - Fraction Groups begin during Cougar's Call -2/3 - Spelling Test & Literacy Cycle 3 Assessment, IMIB Assembly @ 3:00 -2/6 - Report Cards go home! 2/6-2/10 Staff Appreciation Week! -2/10 - Daddy-Daughter Dance Homework: -Read 2 and a half hours and log it in agenda! -Math Packet -Literacy Packet (time spent on Literacy packet can go towards reading for the week!)
