Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
The projects are finished! Thank you for all your help AND coming to visit our class this week! The kids loved showing off their structures! They definitely exceeded my expectations, so thank you for inspiring them to go above and beyond! Next week is our last full week before winter break so we have a lot to fit into the schedule. Starting 12/13 on Tuesdays and Thursdays during Cougar's Call we will begin switching classes for targeted math instruction. From 9:20-10:15 students will move to a 4th grade classroom to recieve additonal math practice. In addition to Cougar Call Math swap, in Math we will continue our study on angles and shapes in Geometry. We will be identifying triangles for the first part of the week (categorizing by both angles, and sides), and begin classifying quadrilaterals on Thursday and Friday. I highly reccomend watching some of the Khan Academy Videos and doing the practice problems to gain experience and confidence with classifying line, angles, triangles and quadrilaterals. Here is a link to the vidoes and practice: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-fourth-grade-math/cc-4th-geometry-topic In Literacy we will begin reading historical fiction. We will divide the class into book clubs and tackle reading strategies for understanding historical fiction texts. On Wedneday, students that scored below an 80% on the Literacy test will retest. The remainer of the week will be used to model reading historical fiction, and meeting in book clubs to read and discuss the text. This week in Integrated Studies we will focus on Science. More specifically, we will base our study around the questions, "What causes day and night? What causes the phases of the moon?" We will begin the week learning about the rotation of the sun, earth and moon. Next we will look into what causes our day and night and seasons. Finally, we will dicuss the phases of the moon and create a mini flip book to help us remember the eight phases. To wrap up our study, we will create the phases of the moons out of oreo cookies! On Friday we will have an edible science lab! We still need 4-5 packages of oreos for this lab. Let me know if you would like to donate a pack of oreos for the sake of learning ;) Announcements: 12/16 - House Meetings 3:00-3:55 & Science Fair Registration Deadline 12/22 - Winter Break!
