Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
We made it through a full week of testing! Woohoo! Next week is back to a somewhat normal week!
Cougar's Call: On Monday we will work on vocabulary and spelling. Tuesday and Thursday we will switch for targeted math instruction and Friday we will have our test on the January spelling words. Math: We are jumping straight into Topic 8 which is fractions! I highly recommend letting your child spend time on Khan Academy practicing identifying fractions and equivalent fractions. The link is posted below. We will spend the week looking at equivalent fractions based on visual pictures, number lines, and we will also compare fractions. www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-fourth-grade-math/cc-4th-fractions-topic Literacy: We are starting our new unit on historical fiction. Now that students know how to read history, we'll go back to putting with with common fiction elements. We are starting book clubs in class which will last for about 10 days. Each book club has a different schedule with reading assigned as homework. Most book clubs will have reading assignments nightly as homework for the next few weeks. On Friday students will take a quiz on identifying historical fiction story elements such as character traits, setting, and perspective. Integrated Studies: We are moving through time to discuss the Civil War and reconstruction after the war. This week we will look at battles that took place in North Carolina and important people during this time period. On Friday we have a Character Assembly!
