Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
December already?! Time, slow down! The room has been buzzing with excitement over our Footprints project! This week we spent every afternoon reviewing grammar, (I have drilled them to put themselves last when using 'I' or 'me' in sentences because it's just rude. They better have that one down!) and writing journals from the perspective of a North Carolina native from the past. Next week we will put our finishing touches on the journals and then prepare to present to the class. Here's some other stuff on our agenda:
In Cougar's Call we will start Monday off with the Unit 3 Math test on multiplication and division. Over the weekend, students should keep reviewing their study guide and practicing the repititive steps of multiplcation and division until it sticks with them. The rest of the week will be split into additional math and writing instruction. In Math we will move on to the next unit: Geometry. This week will focus on the 3 types of angles (acute, right, and obtuse) and how to use these angles to create shapes. On Friday during math time, our grade will participate in the Hour of Code. From 12:15-1:15 students will race to write code on their chromebooks! If you have experience with code, feel free to come join us! In Literacy this week we are continuing to master close reading of nonfiction texts. My groups book clubs have had some great discussions on nonfiction text! I hope to see those same thoughts put on paper this week. I want to prompt students to take what they think about the text and put it into words. On Friday they will show me what the know on the Unit 2 Formal Assessment. This test will be composed of questions on identifying main idea, inferring, and identifying text structure to better understand nonfiction text. In Writing we will put our finishing touches the Footprints project journals. Finally in Integrated Studies we will present our projects. Tuesday afternoon at 3:15 we will walk around to the fourth grade classrooms to preview the other students' structures. Please come join us! I know the students are very excited to show their hardwork! On Wednesday and Thursday students will present one of their journal entries to the class. Dressing up (over the uniform) is welcome but not required! The final part of the project is the reflection which will take place on Thursday afternoon. Here students will write a reflection on the whole project and describe what they have learned.
