Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
Good Afternoon C3 Families,
I hope you are enjoying your weekend. We have a lot of important dates coming up, so make sure to mark your calendars! Here's what this week will look like: In Cougar's Call Tuesday we will wrap up our targeted learning Geometry groups. On Wednesday Mrs. Hall is coming to teach an IMIB lesson! On Thursday morning we will begin MAP testing. Make sure your student has a good night of sleep and eats a good breakfast so they can do their personal best! Finally, on Friday we will work on vocabulary, spelling, and cursive! We started cursive last week and the kids are loving it! Ask your child to show you the "clock climber" letters (a, c, d, g, and o). In Math this week we will continue reviewing perimeter (the measure around an object) and area (the measure inside a figure). Because there is no math packet this week for homework, I encourage students to get on khan academy and watch the videos and complete the quizzes to prepare for our formal Geometry test on Friday. Here is a link to 4th grade geometry practice - https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-fourth-grade-math/cc-4th-geometry-topic In Literacy we will look back into nonfiction, but this time focusing on expository and informational. We will use nonfiction to dive deeper into our studies on the Revolutionary War. In Writing we will be introduced to persuasive writing. We will spend the week writing introduction, body and concluding paragraphs that ultimately try to convince people of something. In Integrated Studies we will continue our studies on North Carolina's role in the American Revolution. Students started working on a mini-project last week about some of the major events that happened in North Carolina that shaped the outcome of the war. They will continue to work in class on Tuesday and will present their findings on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday we will learn about the impact of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution on North Carolina. -HOMEWORK- Due Friday, 1/20 *Read 2 and a half hours and log it in agenda (I'm still checking agendas and giving credits to students that remember to log their reading times, so please keep encouraging this habit!) *Literacy Packet *30 minutes of math practice on Khan Academy -ANNOUNCEMENTS- 1/19 - MAP Testing 1/20 - Formal Geometry Test & Homework Due 1/23 - MAP Testing & Last day of Quarter 1/24 - Make up snow day 1/27 - Cycle 3 Assessment & Clubs
