Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
Hi C3 Families,
Sorry for the delay, I am trying to get everything ready for Thanksgiving Break over on my end. Here is what we have to look forward to over the next few weeks: In Cougar's Call we will be alternating between Integrated Studies, and Math. Students will also be given time to catch up on assignments and/or study for math, spelling, literacy. In Math this week we will focus on factors, multiples, prime, and composite numbers. Students last week wrote these terms in their agenda. Please have them review these important concepts over the break. They will need to know them for the test. (You can even quiz them by asking: What are the factors of 24? Which of those factors are prime? Which are composite?) After the break, we will move on to multiplying 2-digit numbers. I will show students multiple methods. One method that may help students is the break apart method where larger numbers can be broken up into numbers that are easier to multiply. For example, when multiplying 15x13, we will break 15 up into 10 + 5. We can't break up 13 (because it's prime) but now we can multiply (10x13) + (5x13). In Literacy, we are still focusing on nonfiction where we are reading text closely to identify text structures, main ideas and supporting details. Now that students are beginning to get comfortable close reading, we will introduce expository and narrative nonfictions texts to the lessons. In Writing, students will continue working on their journal entries. In Integrated Studies, we will introduce the Footprints In History Project. (The project information will be sent home in Cougar Folder's on Monday.) Now that we have learned about the Native Americans, early settlers, and pioneers of North Carolina, students will have the opportunity to pick a character, time period, and imagine what a day in the life of that person would have been like. This is a 2 part project. The writing part of the project will be done at school and the other hands-on part will be completed at home. It is very important that students are working on this project at home for homework each night. The project will be due, Tuesday, December 6th. After you have read the project information, please email or send me a message if you have questions.
