Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
Making this update short and sweet before I head out of town for the weekend. If I forget any announcements here I will send via Remind throughout the week!
In Cougar's Call we will be catching up on our Lost Colony research and opinion writing. Students will also have time to complete word work and practice November spelling words. In Math we are still working towards learning strategies for division and solving multiplication and division word problems. I have given students the challenge of reciting the 6's,7's,8's,9's,11's, and 12's out loud to me at recess to receive a special treat from me! If they are able to skip count by these numbers without pausing longer than 3 seconds, they get a treat! I already had some try today! I truly cannot stress the importance of knowing the multiplication facts enough. This is a real world skill! In Literacy this week we will continue to build on text structures, main idea and supporting details. This week my Literacy group started a book club using grade level nonfiction texts. They were super excited to pick their book and be a part of a new club! These clubs will continue to focus on the skills that we learn about in whole group lessons. On Thursday and Friday next week we will introduce inferencing. Whether they know it or not, students make inferences all the time! Now we will put that skill to use when reading nonfiction text. In Writing we will continue learning how to correctly write a journal entry. We will switch from a Native American perspective to a European Settler. Students will write from their made up character's point of view and describe a day in the life of a European Settler in North Carolina. In Integrated Studies we will begin our studies on pirates focusing on Anne Bonny and Blackbeard. Students will research one of the pirates and create a pop-up, foldable paper project on their chosen pirate. Later in the week we will move through time and begin discussing the life of settlers of the Mountain region.
