Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
Happy Friday! As October 20th gets closer we are gearing up to go to Biz Town! Since I've never been, I started researching what to expect, and it looks pretty cool. Here's a video explaining what we will get to do for the day at Biztown! It's kind of cheesy, but I have no doubt the kids will have a blast!

We will learn about checking and savings accounts and learn how to balance checkbooks and/or accounts. In Math we will continue Unit 5 on Landmark Numbers. We will take numbers into the ten and hundred thousands and work on place value, rounding, and addition strategies. If your child needs additional math practice, go to the 'links' page on this site to learn more about logging onto Compass Learning which is geared specifically for each student's level and goals. I have also added additional helpful links to math games and websites to ensure that your child feels confident! We have a busy week coming up in Language Arts. On Monday we will have an informal assessment on summarizing. (Remind students to use the "hand method"). Tuesday and Thursday will be used for review. We will have small groups in the room traveling to different centers to practice traits & emotions, theme, and summarizing texts. Additionally, I will have a small group work with me to check for understanding and prepare for the Formal Assessment on Friday. In Writing, students will review the 5 parts of a letter (I'm a real stickler when it comes to correct letter format!) Each student will write a letter to a friend and a letter to the "Editor" that will actually be delivered to them at BizTown! Our Integrated Studies time will be moved to the morning Cougar's Call to make time for our class to fire Raku on Monday and Tuesday. If you have the time, come join us outside from 2:15-3:00! By the end of the week, we will continue our BizTown Lessons on the Flow of the Economy and Taxes. Announcements: Conferences start this week! Sign up for a time to meet with me ASAP! 10/10 & 10/11 - Come join us for Raku! 10/11 - Cotswold Open House 6:30 10/12 - Early Release Day at 1:00 Other News: Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Deerkoski for donating to our classroom adoption! We are one step closer to getting some creative writing journals that I know the kids will LOVE! We are running low on snacks! If anyone would be willing to bring in a box of crackers (graham, saltine, ritz, etc.) or individually wrapped snacks, you would be doing our class a true favor! I cannot thank all of you enough for your support and encouragement. I have absolutely fallen in love with this group of kids and can't wait to share how much they've already grown with you at your conference! See you soon! -Tomi
