Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
We made it to the 3-day weekend! We had a blast at our Fall Party! Thank you everyone for contributing. Here's a look at next week:
On Tuesday and throughout the week during Cougar's Call time we will continue our research on the early Native Americans in North Carolina. On Friday we will have a fall science lab where we will learn why the leaves on trees change color! In Math time we will wrap up our study on Area. We will have an informal math test on Area Tuesday. On Wednesday we start moving into solving multiplication equations using multiple methods such as arrays, pictures, and story problems. On Friday students will have an informal quiz on solving large multiplication equations. Students should be comfortable with breaking up large numbers into smaller "chunks" that they know and then multiplying. For example if given the problem, 14x5, students could break the problem up into: (7x5) + (7x5) = 70 (8x5) + (6x5) = 70 (2x5) + (12x5) = 70 The hope is that they pick out numbers that they are comfortable multiplying, and then they can solve bigger problems. This week is a wonderful week to review and quiz your child on their multiplication facts. The quicker they can recite 1-12 facts, the better! In Literacy this week we will learn about nonfiction text structures. Some structures we will look into include: comparisons, order/sequence, problem/solution, cause/effect, and chronological time. During our Writing time, students will have the opportunity to write a creative piece about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his relevance in the 21st Century. Our whole school is participating in this district wide contest. Winners will be recognized on National Observance Day at Central Piedmont Community College. In Integrated Studies we will continue learning about the early Natives of North Carolina and the Lost Colony. On Friday at 3:00 there is a Character Assembly. Announcements: 10/31 - NO SCHOOL 11/1 - SmashBurger Spirit Night at 5:00 11/4 - Walk to School Day & Character Assembly at 3:00 11/8 - No School Homework: -Read 2 and a half hours and log it in agenda -30 minutes of Math practice on Compass Learning or another approved link (check links tab) -Practice multiplication facts.
