Welcome to 4th Grade!
Stay up to date with current events happening in our class!
Good Afternoon C3 Families,
This week was definitely one for the books! We had Book Fair, pictures, Biz-Town, and clubs. Whew, I don't know about you, but I am exhausted and looking forward to a somewhat normal week again next week! Here's what we have to look forward to: In Cougar's Call time we will start the week off with our formal Math Test Monday morning. The other days will be split working on the new math and integrated studies units (see info. below). On Friday we will start our day with a spelling Test on the October spelling words. This is a formal grade and worth big points! Finally we will have some fun with a Science lab on density. Students will predict and observe if certain types of candy will sink or float. On Monday in Math we will continue testing. Starting Tuesday we will begin a new unit on area. This is a very quick unit (only 1 week long!) We will look into solving area of regular and irregular figures using multiplication. Because we are beginning to move quickly in math, I am now requiring all students to work at least 30 minutes each night on Compass Learning. If you need help logging on, please go to the links tab on this site or contact me for more information. Remember, Compass Learning is a course leveled for each student's strengths and weaknesses. I have specifically assigned certain types of problems for each of my lovely 25 students. In Literacy we will switch gears and begin our study on nonfiction texts! Beginning Monday, we will compare fiction vs. nonfiction texts and discuss nonfiction text features. Here are some of the features your child will learn: Table Of Contents, Diagram, Chart, Graphic Organizer, Photograph, Caption, Index, Glossary On Wednesday, students that made below an 80% on the Unit 1 Literacy Test will retest. The remainder of the week will introduce main idea and supporting details. Friday during the last part of our Literacy time we will have our Fall Party! In Integrated Studies we will wrap up our first IB unit and reflect on what we have learned. Starting Tuesday we will begin our new unit. Here are our two focus questions for the week: What do I know about North Carolina's early history? What were the early Native Americans like in North Carolina? As we read and learn about early North Carolina history, student will work on a brochure in which they will list facts about the Native Americans of each region. Announcements: 10/21 - Parents Night Out at the Improper Pig 10/25 Smashburger Spirit Night 10/28 - Fall Party at 2:00! and Last Day of First Quarter 10/31 - No School Homework: Read 2 and a half hours and log it in agenda each night 30 minutes of Compass Learning each night Practice October Spelling Words - Test Friday! Did I mention how awesome C3 parents are?! Last week Mrs. Reynolds and Mrs. Reule surprised me with a beautiful birthday cake. I'm smiling just thinking about how awesome that was! Also, a huge thank you to Mrs. Reule for taking time out of her busy day to come in and lead a character lesson for the kiddos Wednesday morning. Finally, thank you to our BizTown volunteers - Mr. Evers, Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. Paone, and Mrs. Staley. It was such a memorable experience. I know the kids had a blast and it was all because of you guys! I am the luckiest teacher in the world and I could not do it without you all! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Have a great weekend, Tomi
